Best Health Sharing Plan in Colorado

No matter where you are located in the Centennial State, getting to the ‘other side’ of a pandemic is going to take a bit of creative financial strategizing.  That multi-hundred (or thousand) dollar health insurance bill seems like a good place to start. But how can you justify shirking on health care in a time like this?

Increasingly, Coloradans are turning to Health Care Sharing Programs as a way to slash their monthly costs. At the same time, they are holding on to the critical access needed to handle illness and injury.

Though the options are increasingly varied, one health sharing plan stands out among the rest as the most convenient, affordable, and flexible way to access health care and start saving money immediately.

What’s Different About OneShare Health

The biggest misstep of the Affordable Care Act was assuming that all Americans could be covered under the same limited set of standardized insurance plans. This simply isn’t the case. As a country we are too unique, diverse, and individualistic to be forced into the same type of health care.

Health care cost sharing plans put the power of choice back into the hands of the consumer, giving them more control of both their health and their financial future. As an alternative to health insurance (but not actually health insurance) health sharing programs offer basic, essential health care access at roughly half the price of an unsubsidized ACA plan.

Offered by organizations known as Health Care Sharing Ministries, health sharing plans can vary significantly from one place to another. But in our opinion, OneShare Health offers a blend of affordability and features that showcase why health sharing is so revolutionary.

First, what exactly is OneShare Health? Most importantly it is not insurance. They are a 501(c)3 faith-based Health Care Sharing Ministry. Meaning, they are a nonprofit ministry that helps members have access to an ACA exempt affordable pathway to healthcare. Members help pay each other’s medical expenses through voluntary monthly contributions which provide the sharing power behind their programs.

Each month the member’s monthly contributions are deposited into an escrow account. When members have eligible medical bills, the bills are either submitted by the provider or member as a sharing request. The eligible bills are then shared among the members, according to each member’s program guidelines, by distributing the contributions out of the escrow account to fund each eligible share request.

OneShare Health acts as the facilitator for eligible shared amounts to be either directly paid to the provider or reimbursed to the member.  Each member can see how their contributions are dispersed by viewing one of their great member portal features, the OneShare Sharebox! You can access your membership Sharebox and see where your member contributions are being shared each month.

    • Works Similar to Insurance: Health sharing plans might not be insurance, but with OneShare you will hardly be able to tell the difference. Your health care provider will submit a medical bill to OneShare Health. If the medical bill is eligible for sharing per your program guidelines, the bill will be shared among the members and payment is sent directly to your provider (unlike other sharing plans, which can take months to process reimbursement).
    • Multiple Program Levels Available: There are three different program levels available through OneShare, each with slightly different options. Unlike some of the more rigidly-structured sharing plans, this lets individuals choose the type (& cost) of access that is right for them.
    • Large Provider Network: The First Health Provider Network has been carefully designed to provide for the unique needs of health sharing organizations. This Provider network includes access to hospitals, facilities, and providers comprising over 1.5 million service locations in all 50 states.

The Different Programs Available Through OneShare Health

OneShare Health offers three different medical cost-sharing programs. The monthly contribution amount is different for each program, as is the level of access offered.

The most affordable membership with OneShare is the catastrophic program. This is an ideal choice for individuals who are already in good health and don’t expect to be requiring much medical attention.

The OneShare Catastrophic program still includes such services as 24/7 telemedicine and prescription discounts, two things that even the very healthy can take advantage of.

OneShare Classic is the most popular option. This plan offers a good balance of price and access. Classic programs are themselves available in ‘Basic’, ‘Enhanced’, and ‘Crown’ tiers, offering $150,000, $250,000, and $500,000 respectively in per-incident maximums.

OneShare Classic also offers some sharing for preventative services, urgent care facilities, and maternity, three things unavailable with the Catastrophic Program.

This is one of the most comprehensive health care sharing programs on the market, offering expanded sharing options as well as no maximum per-incident limit.

It is more than twice the monthly cost of the Catastrophic Program, but the lack of a per-incident limit can save you many thousands more over time.

Using OneShare Health to Protect Your Financial Independence

Even in the best of times, the monthly cost of an unsubsidized ACA insurance plan can make it difficult to achieve true financial freedom. At ColoHealth, we believe that every American should be empowered to take control of their own health and health care. Programs like OneShare make this possible while also providing access to significant and likely much needed savings.
