The Benefits of Preventative Care

You may be familiar with the old proverb that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Yet many people only think about their health after they get sick. And by then, the damage can be costly and hard to reverse.

Why wait?

Preventive care is the key to maintaining good health!

Sometimes we have to take a few extra minutes to take care of ourselves, especially in the winter.

One of the most important things I learned while at CSU getting my Master’s in exercise science and nutrition is that taking the time to keep yourself healthy now is the best way to avoid problems later.

Some of the best ways to do this are:

  • Eat whole organic foods
  • Exercise regularly
  • Get adequate sleep
  • Manage your stress effectively
  • Get regular physical check-ups

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires all health insurance plans to cover certain preventive care services without charging you a copayment or coinsurance, regardless of whether or not you’ve met your deductible.

All plans include wellness check-ups that include blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and cancer screenings, as well as necessary vaccinations.

Plans also provide alcohol, depression, and diet counseling to prevent small issues from becoming larger problems.

Take Action Now – Maximize Your Preventive Care Benefits!

  • Review Your Plan: understanding the specifics of your coverage is important. Look for information on which preventive services are covered in your plan.
  • Schedule Regular Check-ups: Utilize the preventive services available to you, such as regular health check-ups, screenings, and vaccinations.
  • Stay Informed: Keep up with changes in health care laws and how they may impact your coverage, especially concerning preventive care.

Using your preventative benefits may save you money in overall healthcare costs, and may even help save your life!
