Peak Health Alliance: An All-New Health Insurance Option for Colorado’s Ski Country

Affordable, locally-minded plans are now available in Grand, Summit, Lake, La Plata, Montezuma, San Juan and Dolores counties.

For a large number of high-country Coloradans, a brand-new health insurance option has hit the market … one that is primed to save a lot of people a lot of money,

It’s called Peak Health Alliance, a non-profit health insurance cooperative with the goal of making local health services more affordable for Rocky Mountain residents. For an area that has had some of the highest premiums in the country, Peak Health is receiving a warm welcome indeed.

In this month’s ColoHealth Blog, we’re going to go over what Peak Health has to offer. If you see something you like, there might still be time to get you enrolled for 2021. (Open Enrollment ends on December 15th, but Colorado usually extends this by an additional month).

Peak Health Alliance and Bright Health: A Match Made in High Country Heaven

Peak Health Alliance is a non-profit health insurance buying cooperative. This means that they are not an insurance company per se, but rather an organization that works to negotiate better premiums for local communities.

For this reason, Peak Health Alliance works with different insurance providers depending on what is currently most affordable. At the moment, Peak Health plans are actually provided by Bright Health, a Minnesota based company that is now serving people in 13 states.

But for all intents and purposes, your plan will be managed by Peak Health Services, so there’s no need to worry about dealing with two different companies. (Let’s be real: dealing with one insurance company is usually enough).

Individual and family health insurance plans with Peak Health Alliance

Peak health offers conventional metal-tiered health insurance plans on the open market. But with the collective bargaining power of local communities, Peak Health is able to secure rates that are as much as 30% more affordable than average ACA plans.

In addition to standard Bronze, Silver, and Gold insurance plans, Peak Health also offers a number of high-deductible, HSA-qualified plans. There’s also a low-cost catastrophic plan that includes 3x primary care visits per year … the perfect way for healthy people  to dramatically slash their monthly costs while remaining covered for worst-case scenarios.

Additional high-quality benefits for the Active High Rockies lifestyle

While low-premiums is what Peak Health is really all about, there are a number of other reasons that high country residents are making the switch en masse.

  • Expanded mental health coverage with low  or $0 copays for provider access
  • A network that includes the major high rockies  hospitals, including St. Anthony Summit, St. Vincent, and Middle Park Health
  • Additional discounts on virtual visits and telehealth benefits
  • Options available for unlimited primary care visits
  • Flat-rate copays  on lab work, x-rays, and MRIs
  • No-cost COVID-19 testing and diagnosis services
  • 100% coverage for wellness services and preventive health

The Peak Health Alliance ICHRA: Valuable health benefits for small local companies

Colorado residents are among the most active and health-conscious people in the entire country, so it’s no surprise that employer-sponsored health benefits are a BIG DEAL when hunting for jobs.

With the Peak Health ICHRA, employers can reimburse their team members for the cost of individually-purchased health insurance. Employers can choose the amount that they want to contribute every month, and those contributions can be made with pre-tax dollars.

So why is the Peak Health ICHRA better than traditional group insurance? For one thing, it lets employees choose the plan that is right for them, as opposed to being forced into a one-size-fits-all company plan.

Secondly, individual market rates can cost anywhere between 15% and 20% less than typical group plans. That’s a huge benefit to potential employees, and one that is likely to decrease turnover by a significant amount.
